Understand me when I say: I am an introvert, I am not the biggest player on the field(in fact, some may say I'm the smallest player on the field). I think my start here was trial by fire. Training was in Camden, NJ(before the PD reform) and Wilmington, DE. Looking back, this was the best introduction to LP for me.
TLDR:: General LP/AP responsibilities here.
I investigated external and internal cases of loss via CCTV. Also followed up on leads or tips obtained via Electronic Journal Reports, employee tips, and exception reports. All of the previously mentioned tools were also used to initiate, investigate, and bring to conclusion investigations. I assisted my DLPM with their shrink audits and took that time to learn from them. It's on thing to see what was on the paper audit, but it's another to learn how the mind works when working through one of these audits to understand and learn the purpose behind each audit item. Also track and effectively communicate information related to Organized Retail Crime to the Delaware State Police Retail Theft Unit and other retailers in the area.
In August 2014, Pathmark went through a restructuring and the LPI position was eliminated and split into 2 positions: Loss Prevention Manager and Loss Prevention Detective. Those who ended up in the LPD position had the sole responsibility of catching shoplifters and took a pay cut. The LPM position was a lateral position with regards to the now defunct Loss Prevention Investigator position and entailed the same responsibilities.

Overall, This was a great experience and I had a unique opportunity to learn from those around me at the corporate level and the store level. This is where I learned the thought process behind why some projects succeed and some do not move forward. Unfortunately...well...Fortunately(seeing the writing on the wall), due to an inevitable bankruptcy, I chose to move forward with my Loss Prevention career. Hello TJX!
